What do you look forward to on Mondays? Is it someone asking if you have a case of the Mondays?
Let’s talk about how you can love Mondays.
I remember struggling to get into work most Mondays, dreading the week ahead and unsure of how I was going to get through a laundry list of to-dos that I couldn’t manage to put my full excitement behind (and if you know me, you know how excited I get about the little things—most people would say over excited. But that’s me!).
Finally, I decided to look for some kind of fulfillment outside of work. I had been in journalism for nearly 10 years, and I thought I would change it up. I wanted to take an art class, but my drawing skills are, um, definitely on the level of preschooler-with-crayons. And I always had fun taking pictures, so—photography it was!
One intro class turned into an entire year and multiple classes each semester—while still working full time—and starting to build my photography portfolio on the weekends. I was photographing anyone who would sit for me, and I loved it. I had found what I wanted to do with my life. After about a year, I had built up my business enough to leave my journalism career and start my own business.
My own business!
I truly believe that we are all creative for the simple fact that each of us is driven to create something in life. That creation is different for each person, but all of us have that drive. If we’re lucky (ha! Kidding—if you work your butt off and strive to make something unique every day), then you get to create what you want every day at work. And those are the people who are excited to go to the office on Mondays.
That can be you. Ask yourself: What do you want to create in the world? How can you get there? This freedom to create what you want is also a freedom to love wildly—love what you do, love who you are, love your life, love those around you with a wild abandon. That’s what it means when we say ‘live free to love wild.’
